Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 21, 2026

1. Introduction

StreamRadar ("we," "our," or "us") is a mobile application that helps you discover movies and TV shows across streaming platforms. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

By using StreamRadar, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for authentication and account recovery.
  • Password — stored securely by Firebase Authentication. We never have access to your plain-text password.

2.2 Onboarding Preferences

During onboarding, you provide:

  • Country — so we can show you streaming availability for your region.
  • Language / locale — to display content metadata in your preferred language.
  • Streaming platforms — the services you subscribe to (e.g., Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max) so we can filter results accordingly.
  • Global Mode preference — whether you want to see content available in other countries.

2.3 Usage Data

As you use the app, we collect:

  • Swipe history — each swipe records the content ID, media type (movie or TV), whether you liked or disliked it, associated genre IDs, and a timestamp.
  • Liked content — items you explicitly like are saved with their title, poster image path, rating, genre IDs, and timestamp.
  • Genre weights — a calculated preference profile based on your swipe patterns, used to improve recommendations.
  • Daily Picks — records of generated daily recommendations and which ones you've already seen, to avoid repetition.

2.4 Analytics Events

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. The following events are tracked:

  • Sign up, login, and sign out actions
  • Onboarding completion (with country, locale, number of selected platforms, and Global Mode setting)
  • Content views, likes, unlikes, and swipes (with content type and ID)
  • Search queries (search term and result count)
  • Settings changes (setting name and new value)
  • Tab navigation

We also set the following analytics user properties: country code, locale, Global Mode status, and number of streaming platforms.

2.5 Data We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect your precise or approximate location (GPS, IP-based geolocation). Your country is manually selected by you.
  • We do not collect device identifiers (IDFA, advertising ID).
  • We do not collect contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or other device sensor data.
  • We do not use advertising SDKs or serve ads.
  • We do not collect financial or payment information (there are no in-app purchases).

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Authentication & account management — your email and password are used solely to create and secure your account via Firebase Authentication.
  • Personalization — your country, language, streaming platforms, and swipe history are used to provide personalized content recommendations, daily picks, and streaming availability information.
  • Recommendation engine — your genre weights (derived from your swipes) and liked items are used to rank and select content that matches your tastes.
  • Product improvement — aggregated, anonymized analytics help us understand feature usage, identify issues, and improve the app.

4. Data Storage & Security

All user data is stored in Google Firebase infrastructure:

  • Firebase Authentication — handles email/password credentials securely. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
  • Cloud Firestore — stores your preferences, swipe history, liked content, genre weights, and daily picks. Data is organized under your unique user ID and is only accessible by you.
  • Firebase Analytics — event data is processed and stored by Google according to Firebase's privacy policy.

Firebase services use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to your Firestore data is restricted by security rules tied to your authenticated user ID.

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 TMDB (The Movie Database)

We use the TMDB API to fetch movie and TV show metadata, including titles, descriptions, genres, ratings, poster images, and streaming provider availability. When making requests to TMDB, we send your selected country code and language preference to retrieve localized, region-specific results. No personal information (email, user ID, etc.) is shared with TMDB.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

5.2 JustWatch

Streaming availability data (which platforms offer a given movie or show) is sourced from JustWatch via the TMDB API. StreamRadar does not connect directly to JustWatch servers — the data is provided through TMDB's watch provider endpoints.

5.3 Google Firebase

Firebase provides authentication, database, and analytics services as described above. Google may process limited technical data (such as device type, OS version, and app version) as part of these services. For details, see Firebase's privacy documentation.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. Your data is only shared with the third-party services listed above (Firebase, TMDB) strictly for the purpose of providing the app's functionality. We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — contact us to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct your data — you can update your preferences (country, language, streaming platforms, Global Mode) directly in the app's settings.
  • Delete your account and data — you can request full account deletion by contacting us at the email below. Upon request, we will delete your Firebase Authentication account and all associated Firestore data (preferences, swipe history, likes, genre weights, and daily picks). This action is irreversible.
  • Withdraw consent — you may stop using the app at any time and request deletion of your data.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, all personal data will be permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained for product improvement purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

StreamRadar is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
